| About Heritage Farms |
The Heritage Farm Program
helps member farms to establish production herds of
heritage breed livestock in accordance with specific
market standards and (HBC) protocols. HBC is committed
to conserving heritage breeds by bringing them back
into production.
|
| The goal of the Heritage
Farm Program is to see 30 member farms in operation
by the end of the year. Farms with 5-100 acres of agriculturally
zoned land; appropriate infrastructure such as barn,
fencing and access to fresh water; a commitment to following
breeding protocols; and the availability of knowledgeable
and reliable farm personnel, are among the criteria
used by HBC when selecting new program participants.
|
The Heritage Farm Program helps
members locate foundation stock for production herds
of heritage livestock. These animals can be a profitable
resource for the future viability of sustainable farming
in the Northeast. Your annual membership provides
you with access to the following benefits:
|
| Benefits of the Program |

Members of the Heritage Farm Program
have made a long-term commitment to the stewardship
and genetic improvement of heritage breeds. Working
within HBC/NELA protocols, the program ensures the
production of quality products from these historic
breeds, and emphasizes natural, environmentally sound
and sustainable livestock care and production techniques.
Animals are raised on grass in the most natural of
settings without the use of antibiotics and growth
hormones. New England pastures are most suitable for
these heritage breeds which thrive in our often harsh
climate, as well as on a diet of grass. For these
reasons, the Heritage Farm Program offers tremendous
potential for farming in the Northeast.
